The Bestiary is a record of every creature in Elsewild, kept on your stats screen. It starts empty and fills in as you fight: each creature appears once you have beaten one, with where it lives, how many you have beaten, what it drops and what those parts make.
Opening it
Open your stats screen with K and choose the BESTIARY tab, after LANDS. The tab shows how many creatures you have found so far, for example BESTIARY · 7/23.
What it shows
The creatures, by land
Every creature you can meet is laid out in rows by the land it lives in: the Woods, the Highlands, the Tundra, the Desert and the Haunted Wood. Each sits in a round medallion ringed in its land's colour:
- a creature you have beaten shows its picture, with a small badge counting how many you have beaten;
- one you have not beaten yet shows only its shadow and the words NOT YET.
The lair bosses have their own row, in gold rings, each shown by its trophy head.
| Land | Creatures |
|---|---|
| The Woods | Gnawling, Gnawmother, Longlegs, Wolf, Bear, Werewolf |
| The Highlands | Kobold, Cairnback, Crag Wyvern, Gargoyle, Flitterbat, Mermaid |
| The Tundra | Yeti, Rime Owl, Snowkin |
| The Desert | Chupacabra, Scuzz, Crawler |
| The Haunted Wood | Wraith, Grave Knight, Turned-Coat, Raker, Demon Imp |
| Lair bosses | Silvetus, Giggos, Nivora, Fulgoria, the Hollow Stag |
Each creature is filed under one land, even when it is found in others too: the Gnawling, Longlegs, Crawler and Scuzz come in every land, and wolves and bears roam them all. The creature's own entry says where it really lives.
A creature's entry
Choose a medallion and the creature stands on a dais beside the grid, with:
- its name;
- where and when it is about (for example "the Tundra, at night, and its dungeons"; for a boss, its lair and land);
- DEFEATED and how many you have beaten;
- DROPS: each part it can leave, with how many and the chance;
- WHAT THEY MAKE: what each of those parts is used for, and what they grind into.
Until you beat one, its entry only says to beat one to learn what it leaves.
What counts
- A creature counts when it dies after you have struck it. If no one struck it (for example, it fell to something else), it counts for the player whose game was running it, unless the village folk beat it.
- Each creature counts once, however its death reaches you.
- Lair bosses beaten in a world from before the Bestiary was added count once each.
Where it is kept
The counts belong to your Wanderer in that world. They are saved with the world, so they are in your cloud saves too (see Accounts and Cloud Saves).
