Imp

HAUNTED WOODCREATURE

The Demon Imp is a small fire-throwing creature of the Haunted Wood that fights from a distance. It throws fireballs, sometimes a whole fan of them at once, and hops back out of reach when you get close.

Where it appears

  • The Haunted Wood at night, and by day in the wood's gloom (half as often, at most 2 creatures at a time). About 1 in 12 of the creatures that come there is an Imp.
  • Haunted Wood dungeons.

Health

18 health in the open world with no Jewels held, and 70% more for each Jewel. Its fire grows by 40% for each Jewel.

Attacks

Damage is with no Jewels held, before your defence.

AttackWhat it doesDamageHow to avoid it
FireballIt raises one hand and charges a flame (0.58 seconds), then throws it straight at you. The fireball flies at 86 px a second for up to 2.6 seconds.About 22Step aside, or right-click or R: a parry knocks it away, a block takes a small share. Trees and walls stop it.
Fan of fireAbout 1 throw in 3. It charges with both hands, much longer (1.45 seconds), then throws 6 fireballs spread across 60 degrees.About 15 a fireballMove out of the fan's path, or get behind a tree. After one fireball hits you, the others cannot hurt you for 0.55 seconds.

Behaviour

  • It notices you from up to 170 px.
  • When you come within 39 px it hops back about 32 px (it can hop again 2.6 seconds later).
  • When you are more than 115 px off, or now and then at random, it runs a short way to one side instead of throwing.
  • Every blow that lands makes it flinch for half a second and cancels a throw it was charging.

How to fight it

  • Close in fast and keep hitting: each hit stops its throw, and it can only hop away once every 2.6 seconds.
  • A long charge with both hands means the fan: either reach it and hit it before it throws, or step behind a tree.
  • With a Bow you can hit it from where it stands; each arrow also cancels its throw.
