Raker

HAUNTED WOODCREATURENIGHT

The Raker is a lean, long-clawed hunter and the most common night creature of the Haunted Wood. It hides behind tree trunks, peeking out now and then, and springs at you when you pass. Its attack is a fast flurry of five claw swipes.

Where it appears

  • The Haunted Wood at night, and by day in the wood's gloom (half as often, at most 2 creatures at a time). About 1 in 3 of the creatures that come there is a Raker.
  • Haunted Wood dungeons: about 1 in 4 of the creatures there.

Health

23 health in the open world with no Jewels held, and 70% more for each Jewel. Its blows grow by 40% for each Jewel.

Hiding

  • Before it has seen you, and when it is more than 170 px from you, it often slips off to a tree and hides behind the trunk. Only its muzzle and claws show past the trunk; now and then it leans out to peek, its eyes glowing.
  • From behind its tree it springs out when you come within 78 px (or within 150 px once it has waited 2.6 seconds). Striking it while it hides also brings it straight out at you.

Attacks

Damage is with no Jewels held, before your defence.

Spring

Out of hiding, or after rearing up and hissing for 0.3 seconds when it is within 50 px of you, it springs low and fast (190 px a second) at where you are heading. If it lands within reach it goes straight into its flurry.

Flurry

Five claw swipes in 0.95 seconds:

  • the first four deal about 5 health each. They do not knock you back, and the short safe moment you normally get after being hit does not stop them;
  • the fifth deals about 13 health and shoves you back.

Hitting it does not interrupt the flurry. right-click or R does: a parry on any swipe ends the flurry and leaves it reeling. A block takes a small share of each swipe.

How to fight it

  • Watch the trees: a pair of eyes at a trunk is a Raker waiting. Strike it there or walk in ready to parry.
  • When it rears and hisses, raise right-click or R: a parried swipe stops all the rest.
  • After a flurry it needs a moment to recover and then rests 1 to 2 seconds before its next attack. That is when to hit it.

Drops
