Wraith

HAUNTED WOODCREATURE

The Wraith (called the Ghost in some places) is a hooded, floating spirit of the Haunted Wood. It changes back and forth between a solid form and a drifting mist. While it is solid it can strike you and be struck; while it is mist, every blow passes straight through it.

Where it appears

  • The Haunted Wood at night, and also by day: the wood's gloom counts as night, so a few night creatures come there in daylight too (half as often, and at most 2 at a time). About 1 in 12 of the creatures that come there is a Wraith.
  • Haunted Wood dungeons.

Health

20 health in the open world with no Jewels held, and 70% more for each Jewel. Its blows grow by 40% for each Jewel.

Solid and mist

  • It stays solid for 4.5 seconds, then fades to mist for 4 seconds, then back. Each change takes 0.7 seconds.
  • In mist, blows show the word THROUGH and do nothing. Burns and bleeding do not hurt it either, and your companions' bites pass through.
  • In mist it drifts faster and passes through trees and rocks. It always floats, so water does not stop it.
  • It only becomes mist between attacks, never in the middle of one.

Attacks

Rake

Only while solid, when you are within 29 px. It draws back its claw (0.6 seconds), then dashes in and rakes it down across in front of it (0.3 seconds), for about 26 health (no Jewels, before your defence). Space or step out of its path, or right-click or R: a parry leaves it reeling for about a second.

How to fight it

  • Count its rhythm. Strike while it is solid; when it starts to fade, back off and wait out the 4 seconds of mist.
  • It attacks only while solid, so the moment it turns solid again is the moment to be ready to parry.
  • A parried rake leaves it open for about a second, the best time for a full combo.
In online play its rake lands on whichever Wanderer it goes for, in their own game, and they can parry it.
