Turned-Coat

HAUNTED WOODCREATURE

The Turned-Coat is a raincoat with no one inside it, stiff as armour in front. It lies on the ground like a dropped coat until you walk up to it, then rises and lunges. Anything you hit its front with clinks off harmlessly, so the fight is about getting round it or opening it up.

Where it appears

  • The Haunted Wood at night, and by day in the wood's gloom (half as often, at most 2 creatures at a time). About 1 in 16 of the creatures that come there is a Turned-Coat.
  • Haunted Wood dungeons.

Health

20 health in the open world with no Jewels held, and 70% more for each Jewel. Its blows grow by 40% for each Jewel.

The heap

It starts as a heap on the ground. It rises (about 1.1 seconds) when you come within 36 px, or when you strike it. A blow on the heap only wakes it: it deals no damage.

Its armoured front

  • A blow to its front does nothing: it shows the word TINK and sparks.
  • A blow from behind deals full damage.
  • It keeps its front to you: about a third of a second after you get round it, it turns to face you again.
  • While it is open after a parry (1.6 seconds), or knocked on its back by a plunge (2.2 seconds, then half a second to get up), blows from any side land and deal 50% more.
  • Burns and bleeding are not stopped by its coat.

Attacks

Lunge

When you are within 24 px in front of it, it gathers itself (0.5 seconds), aiming as it does, then lunges forward (0.28 seconds) for about 22 health (no Jewels, before your defence) and a shove. right-click or R it: a parry throws its front open for 1.6 seconds; a block takes a small share.

How to fight it

  • Parry, then strike: wait for the lunge, parry it, and land a full combo into its open front.
  • Plunge: a plunge (the downward strike from a jump) knocks it onto its back for over 2 seconds, open to every blow.
  • Get round it: it walks slowly (18 px a second) and takes a moment to turn, so you can circle behind it and strike its back.
  • A fire-spirited weapon's burn, or a bleeding trait, hurts it even through the front.
