The Crawler is a pale creature on four splayed limbs, its knees higher than its back. It moves slowly and keeps its distance, spitting bone spikes at you in an arc, and now and then it leaps to land beside you with a shockwave.
Where it appears
- Every land at night. In the base mix of night creatures it comes about 1 time in 6.
- Every dungeon, in every land.
Health
17 health in the open world with no Jewels held, and 70% more for each Jewel. Its blows grow by 40% for each Jewel.
Attacks
Damage is with no Jewels held, before your defence.
| Attack | What it does | Damage | How to avoid it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spit | Within 130 px it rears and trembles (about 0.4 seconds), then spits a spike in a high arc at 170 px a second, aimed at where you are heading. Missed spikes stick in the ground for 4 seconds. | About 17 | A step aside as it fires, or right-click or R to parry or block it. |
| Leap | It crouches (0.32 seconds), then leaps to a spot near you (0.35 to 0.8 seconds in the air). Landing sends a shockwave 40 px round it. | About 17 | Space over the ring as it lands. |
Behaviour
- It notices you from up to 150 px.
- It works through a fixed round: crawl to a spot 55 to 80 px from you, spit, spit again, then leap. If you are more than 130 px away it leaps instead of spitting, and if there is nowhere clear to land it spits instead of leaping. A leap only goes where its path is clear of trees and walls.
- It crawls slowly, at about 22 px a second.
How to fight it
- Close the distance: it cannot outrun you, and while it rears to spit it stands still.
- Keep moving sideways while it spits, so the spike lands where you were.
- When it crouches low, it is about to leap: be ready to Space the landing ring, then strike it while it gathers itself.
