Every tool and weapon has an edge: the number of blows it can land before it goes dull. A dull weapon still works but deals half damage. You restore the edge by mending it at a Spiriting Table, or anywhere with an edge stone from your pack.
How the edge wears
- EDGE on an item's page shows the blows it has left out of its most.
- A swing or strike that lands wears it by 1. For the bow, a shot does; for the mattock, a swing that lands on a tree, a rock or a creature.
- Guarding with the sword (blocking a blow) also wears it by 1.
- At 0 the edge is dull: blows deal half damage (the bow: a frayed string, half damage). Nothing breaks or is lost.
Edge by weapon and metal
Better metal keeps its edge longer: bronze lasts 1.5 times as long as stone, iron 2.2 times, steel 3 times, endurium 4.5 times.
| Weapon | Stone | Iron | Endurium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sword | 85 | 187 | 383 |
| Greatsword | 105 | 231 | 473 |
| Daggers | 80 | 176 | 360 |
| War Hammer | 115 | 253 | 518 |
| Bow | 95 | 209 | 428 |
| Blade Staff | 95 | 209 | 428 |
| Mattock | 75 | 165 | 338 |
Each weapon's page has its bronze and steel numbers too. Some traits and spirit tiers make an edge last longer, and a few keep it from ever wearing.
Mending at a Spiriting Table
At a Spiriting Table, choose the item and mend it: its edge is restored in full. Each item is mended only by its own material, plus a few spirits:
| Item | Material | Spirits |
|---|---|---|
| Stone Sword, Stone Daggers | 2 Stone | 1 Water, 1 Earth |
| Stone Greatsword, War Hammer, Blade Staff | 3 Stone | 1 Water, 1 Earth |
| Stone Bow, Stone Mattock | 2 Wood | 1 Water, 1 Earth |
| Bronze | 1 Bronze Ingot | 1 Water, 1 Fire |
| Iron | 1 Iron Ingot | 2 Water, 2 Fire |
| Steel | 1 Steel Ingot | 2 Water, 2 Fire |
| Endurium | 1 Endurium Ingot | 3 Water, 3 Fire |
Edge stones
Edge stones restore part of an edge anywhere, from your pack. Choose the stone in your pack, then the tool or weapon to sharpen (the ones that have lost some edge are lit). One stone is used each time.
| Stone | Restores | Opens |
|---|---|---|
| Riverstone | 25% of the edge | From the start |
| Whetstone | 40% of the edge | Lairs cleared in two lands |
| Spiritstone | 100% of the edge | Lairs cleared in four lands |
The share is of the item's full edge, so a stone does more on a finer weapon. Edge stones are made at a Crafting Table on its MISC page.
