Smelting and Milling

GUIDECRAFTING

The three Stations turn raw materials into worked ones: ore into ingots at the Furnace, logs into planks at the Sawmill, and hide, wool and plant fibre into leather and cloth at the Loom. This page lists every recipe. From bronze up, the crafting bench asks for these worked materials instead of raw ones.

How to read the tables

  • From and Spirits are for one recipe at tier I. A tier II station takes 80% of them and a tier III station 65%, worked out for the whole batch and rounded up.
  • Seconds is the time for one at tier I, II and III. At the furnace these times are with wood as fuel: charcoal makes them 25% shorter and peat 40% shorter.
  • The furnace also burns fuel for every recipe but charcoal: 1 Wood each, or 1 Charcoal for every 2, or 1 Peat for every 3. See Stations.

Slick Skin is a Slick Skin, a Mermaid Scale, a Wyvern Scale or a Bat Wing. The loom burns no fuel.

Ore, logs and hide in recipes

Recipes at the crafting bench, and building pieces, ask for worked materials where they would have asked for raw ones: ingots instead of ore and planks instead of the sister woods. Bronze and finer things also ask for leather instead of hide. Stone weapons and tools use plain Wood and Stone, so the first hours stay simple.

Raw materialAsked for asHow many
Copper OreBronze Ingot1 ingot for every 2 ore, rounded up
Iron OreIron Ingot (in steel things: Steel Ingot)1 ingot for every 2 ore, rounded up
EnduriumEndurium Ingot1 ingot for every 2 ore, rounded up
BeechwoodBeechwood Planks1 plank for each log
IronwoodIronwood Planks1 plank for each log
RimewoodRimewood Planks1 plank for each log
GhostwoodGhostwood Planks1 plank for each log
HideLeather (bronze and finer things only)1 for 1

In a steel thing, the bone a recipe would ask for is dropped, because it has already gone into the Steel Ingots. Since one log saws into two planks, a plank recipe costs half the logs it would have.

Tips

  • Glass needs a Stone Bloomery, so upgrade your furnace once before you need glass.
  • A Tin Bucket from the tundra's Snowkin plus 1 Copper Ore makes 2 Bronze Ingots: twice the bronze for the ore.
  • Ingots, planks, leather, cloth, glass and glue can be put through The Grinder to get back part of what made them.
