Coat Linings

GUIDEGEAR

A lining is a layer of creature hide or scales sewn into a coat when you make it. It gives the coat one extra effect on top of its stats. Linings are for coats of iron, steel or endurium, and each one costs 3 creature parts.

The linings

LiningCostsWhat it does
Yeti-lined3 Yeti PeltSnow and wet nights chill you 25% slower.
Wyvern-scaled3 Wyvern ScaleHeat and fire do 25% less damage to you.
Mermaid-scaled3 Mermaid ScaleYou swim 15% faster.

The parts come from the Yeti of the Tundra, the Crag Wyvern of the Rocky Highlands and the Mermaid.

Adding a lining

  1. Open the Crafting Table and go to the COATS page.
  2. Pick any of the six coats and choose iron, steel or endurium. A LINING row appears with four buttons: PLAIN, YETI, WYVERN and MERMAID.
  3. Choose one. Its 3 parts are added to the coat's cost, and the line under the buttons says what it does.
  4. Make the coat as usual.

The lining is sewn in as the coat is made. You can't add one to a coat you already have, or take one out. Plain (no lining) costs nothing extra. Leather and bronze coats can't be lined.

A lined coat is named for its lining: an iron Tank's coat with a Yeti lining is an Iron Tank's Yeti Coat. Its page in your pack shows the lining and what it does.

How each lining works

Yeti-lined

Cold builds up 25% slower while you wear it: in the snow of the Tundra and out on cold, wet nights. It does not slow the chill of a yeti's bite, which still chills you at once. See Status Effects for how cold works.

Wyvern-scaled

Fire and heat do 25% less damage to you. This counts:

  • the Imp's fire;
  • every blow of Giggos, and the heat he leaves on his hall's floor;
  • Silvetus's gas when it catches fire;
  • the Hollow Stag's ring of fire;
  • a Kobold's keg;
  • flame jets and ghostfire rings in dungeons.

Mermaid-scaled

You swim 15% faster. This adds to any other swimming bonus you have, such as a coat's Swim stat.

Grinding a lined coat

A coat keeps a record of what it took to make, lining included. When you grind it in The Grinder, you get back the Grinder's share of everything, the lining's parts among it.

Tips

  • Make a Yeti-lined coat before you spend long in the Tundra.
  • A Wyvern-scaled coat is a strong choice for Giggos's hall in the Rocky Highlands, where the floor itself burns.
  • An Olympian's Mermaid Coat stacks its swim bonus with the lining for fast travel by water.
In online play your lining works in your own game, so it counts for every blow that lands on you, whoever's game runs the creature. A fire blow from a creature that another player's game runs reaches you marked as fire, so your Wyvern scales count it.
