A bed lets you sleep through the night. E at a Bed or a Bedroll after dark and you wake at dawn with full health. A bed lasts and needs a proper house round it; a bedroll goes anywhere but wears through after one night.

Sleeping
E at a bed or bedroll to get in. The screen fades out, the night passes, and you wake beside the bed at dawn. When you wake:
- Your health is full.
- Any poison is gone.
- Your sleepiness is gone (see Sleep).
- The creatures that were out in the night are gone.
Your stamina is not refilled: eat for that (see Stamina).
When you can't sleep
- By day, only if you have gone a whole day without sleep. Otherwise: "not tired yet".
- With creatures near (within about 8 tiles): "not with them so close".
- A worn-through bedroll: "it's worn through".
- A tenant's bed is theirs: "that's (their name)'s bed".
Beds and tenants
A free bed in a proper house is what a Room to Let sign needs to bring a tenant. Once they move in, the bed is theirs. A Scarecrow keeps visitors off the beds within 2 tiles of it. See Tenants.
Companions' beds
The Pet Bed is a bed for a companion. A companion at home sleeps on it at night, healing twice as fast and growing happier each night. One following you sleeps on it while you sleep nearby. One companion to a pet bed. See Companions.
Beds and comfort
A bed is one of the things that make a cozy room cosier. See Comfort.
- You may sleep in a bed or bedroll you made, wherever it stands. You may sleep in someone else's only if it stands on land you own, or if you are a builder of the land's owner or of the bed's maker. Otherwise you are told "That's (their name)'s bed."
- One bed each: sleeping in a bed makes it yours ("your bed now"), and the bed you slept in before is no longer yours. Its maker can always get back in.
- Nobody can get into a bed someone is sleeping in right now.
- The night passes only once everyone in the room is asleep. While you wait for the others, you can GET UP.
- Everyone sees each other asleep in their beds.
