The Fishing Pole is the tool for Fishing. Hold it by the water to cast a float, set the hook when something bites, and reel the catch in. Its metal decides how far it casts, how strong its line is and how rare a catch it can pull up. A steel or endurium pole can hook the Legendary Fish.
In-game description
A springy ash rod with a knapped stone weight and a sinew line. By the water, E casts; hold click or F to reel, right-click or R to yank.SHOWN ON ITS CARD
How to use it
- Cast: click or F casts toward where you aim. Hold E and let go to cast as far as you held it (1.3 seconds for full length).
- Set the hook: right-click or R as the float is pulled under. You have 1 second (more with some abilities).
- Reel: hold click or F while the catch wiggles.
- Yank: right-click or R while the catch runs, to haul it back.
- Stop: E reels the line in.
- Wager: right-click or R by the water, with nothing on the line, opens the fishing window to set a Spirit Wager.
Reeling against a run, or yanking a wiggling catch, strains the line. When the strain is full, the line snaps. See Fishing for the whole fight.
By metal
| Metal | Cast | Line uses | Best fish it reaches | Wager it carries |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stone | 80 px | 65 | Common | 25 |
| Bronze | 90 px | 98 | Uncommon | 50 |
| Iron | 100 px | 143 | Rare | 100 |
| Steel | 110 px | 195 | Very rare; legendary fish | 150 |
| Endurium | 120 px | 293 | Every fish; legendary fish | 200 |
Each catch uses one line use, and a snapped line uses two. A worn-out line still works but is half as strong. Full stats, and every ability spirits can wake in a pole, are on Fishing Rods.
Spirits
Bound at the Spiriting Table, each element wakes fishing abilities: Fire for spirits from each catch, ore and calmer catches; Water for healing, quicker bites and double catches; Earth for line strength, durability, ore and gear; Wind for reeling speed, long casts, self-setting hooks and spirits. Two elements both at tier II or higher add a pairing ability. See Fishing Rods.
Tips
- Watch for nibbles: only fish make the float twitch before the bite.
- A pole can also come up on the line, waterlogged, when you fish.

Stats
Its stats as made, before any spirits or traits.
| Metal | Cast | Reel | Bite | Line | Pulls up |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stone | 80 | 100% | 100% | 100% | STONE AND BELOW |
| Bronze | 90 | 100% | 100% | 125% | BRONZE AND BELOW |
| Iron | 100 | 110% | 100% | 150% | IRON AND BELOW |
| Steel | 110 | 110% | 100% | 180% | STEEL AND BELOW |
| Endurium | 120 | 120% | 100% | 220% | ENDURIUM AND BELOW |
What the stats mean
- Cast: How far the float flies when you cast.
- Reel: How fast you reel in what you've hooked.
- Bite: Bite rate: higher means less waiting. At 130%, a bite takes about 23% less time than at 100%. Perk estimates assume a plain pole; combined bonuses and the minimum wait affect the result.
