Standing

GUIDEVILLAGES

Standing is how much a village likes you. Every village keeps its own Standing with you, in five steps: STRANGER, WELCOME, FRIEND, TRUSTED and HERO. You raise it by doing that village's Village Quests and by trading there, and each step makes the village better for you.

The five steps

Standing is counted in points. You start every village as a STRANGER with 0 points.

StandingPoints neededWhat it gives
STRANGER0Nothing yet: the village as you find it.
WELCOME2Stalls stock one tier better from their next restock. A room at the inn is kept for you each night.
FRIEND5Two more goods on each stall from its next restock. Stalls pay 20% more for what you sell. Two houses gain a second story.
TRUSTED10Lanterns line the lanes. Guards deal 50% more damage and have 50% more health.
HERO16Your statue stands in the square. The village's notices pay 25% more.

Each step keeps everything from the steps before it. A village also grows new buildings, gardens and decorations with each step: see Town Growth.

Raising your Standing

HowPoints
Finishing a notice from the village's board+1 or +2
Finishing a request a villager asks you in person+2 or +3
Trading at one of its stalls (buying or selling)+1, once a week

The points a quest gives are shown on it before you take it. Each quest's Standing is listed on the Village Quests page. Only the first trade in a village each in-game week (7 days) gives a point; a "+1 STANDING WITH ..." message shows when it does.

Points only go up: Standing is never lost. Giving up a quest costs no Standing.

What each step does, in detail

WELCOME: better stalls and a room

  • Every stall in the village stocks goods as if you held one more Jewel: better metal and more goods. See Traders.
  • The change shows from the stall's next restock (stalls restock every 2 days), not at once.
  • A room at the village inn is yours every night for free, without paying the innkeeper. See Villages.

FRIEND: more goods, better prices, taller houses

  • Each stall carries 2 more goods, from its next restock.
  • Everything you sell in the village earns 20% more.
  • Two of the village's houses gain a second story, built by your next visit.

TRUSTED: lanterns and stronger guards

  • Lanterns appear along the village's lanes and light them at night.
  • The guards hit 50% harder and have 50% more health.

HERO: your statue and better pay

  • A stone statue of the Wanderer on a plinth stands in or beside the square.
  • Notices from that village's board pay 25% more: experience, spirits and materials. Requests are not changed.
  • The villagers call out when they see you ("It's the Wanderer!").

Seeing your Standing

  • The Standing page: open the notice board in a village's square and press the Standing chip at the top (or Tab). It shows the five steps on a line, what you have now, what the next step gives, how to raise it, a few lines about the village and its folk.
  • The progress bar: under the steps, a bar in the next step's colour fills as you earn points, with one notch per point, and says how many more you need ("3 MORE TO TRUSTED"). At HERO it says "HERO: THE HIGHEST STANDING THERE IS".
  • The Quests tab: in your stats window (K), the QUESTS tab lists the villages where your Standing is highest.

When a village reaches a new step, a moment shows the new Standing. The next time you come to the village, its folk gather in the square to cheer, and a banner says the village has grown. See Town Growth.

Tips

  • Requests give more Standing than notices, but each can be done only once per world, and they only appear once you are WELCOME.
  • Trade at every village you pass through once a week: it is a free point each time.
  • WELCOME is only 2 points away and gives the biggest change to the stalls, so it is worth reaching in every village you use.
Standing and its rewards are only in the desktop and Android apps. In the browser versions, villages stay as you find them.
In online play, each player has their own Standing with each village, and each player's stalls, inn room and notice pay follow their own Standing. Everyone who helped with a quest gets its Standing. How the village looks (second stories, lanterns, the statue and everything from Town Growth) and how strong its guards are follow the highest Standing among the players near it, so everyone in the room sees the same village.
